Our Heritage and Values

Wearwell has a long and proud history of workwear manufacture that dates back to 1939. Founded in Birmingham, Wearwell was then known as Wearwell Overalls.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN…

The factory, located on Gagarin on the Lichfield Road in Tamworth, has been the home of Wearwells UK manufacturing facility since 1960.

Wearwell, was officially founded as Wear Well Overalls in a small shed, with only two sewing machines, in 1939 by Wilfrid Aston. The company quickly out grew its humble beginnings and took residency in a small converted church in Balsall Heath, Birmingham.

Located on Gagarin on the Lichfield Road in Tamworth, is still the home of Wearwells UK manufacturing facility to this day.

Balsall Heath become the home of Wear Well Overalls manufacturing until 1960 when, due to further growth, Wear Well Overalls moved to Tamworth’s Lichfield Road Industrial Estate purchasing one of the first factory’s to be built on the new industrial estate. This factory, located on Gagarin on the Lichfield Road in Tamworth, is still the home of Wearwells UK manufacturing facility to this day.

In 1976 Wear Well Overalls was acquired by Workwear Corporation USA. Their goal was to expand their brand across the UK and into the European marketplace and saw Wearwell as a strategic acquisition that would facilitate this growth.

In 1988 Wear Well Overalls was sold to US giant Williamson Dickie USA who purchase Wear Well Overalls with similar goals to Workwear Corporation USA.

With the purchase complete, Wear Well Overalls become known as Dickies Wearwell.

Having been founded in 1922, Williamson Dickie brought with them their decades worth of high profile manufacturing improvements and recommendations, propelling Dickies Wearwell forward, building relationships with clients we still have today.

In 1995 Dickies Wearwell experienced its first of two MBOs. These MBOs brought with them the introduction of a brand-new warehouse located next to Wearwells UK factory, the introduction of new and upgraded IT solutions as well as a host of improvements to machinery and modern working practices.

In 2017 Wearwell was officially purchased by Richard Wright and Rockpool Investments.

OUR VALUES

Everyone wants to be the biggest and the best at what they do. But when we set our sights on something, we do whatever it takes to get there. So when it came to our vision, we only had one option: to set the bar high.

Almost eight decades of lessons have been harnessed, studied and understood. Time served shows that we know what matters, and what doesn’t. It isn’t about the journey, it’s about the lessons learned along the way.

  • We put the customer first
  • We want to be the best
  • We’re brave and inspirational
  • We respect each other & our planet
  • We work as one team
